Children
learn through movement…In addition to the health benefits of physical activity,
movement is an integral part of the young child’s life and education, for it is
through movement that children develop social, emotional, and cognitive skills.
When children are active, they have stronger muscles and
bones, leaner bodies, are less likely to become overweight, are at decreased
risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and may maintain lower blood pressure and
cholesterol levels, leading to a healthier, higher functioning child.
In addition, research has shown that children feel
better about themselves, have better mental health, and perform
better in school when they are active.
This does not necessarily mean that they participate in
sports or work out in a gym, but that they have opportunities for uninhibited
play and opportunities to participate in organized physical activities that
encourage the development of age-appropriate skills.
"Today, Kids Don't Play Like they Used To..."
As we have researched and studied
children’s habits, they just aren’t playing as previous generations did.
That’s a BIG BUMMER. Research shows that kids who engage in regular
play are substantially better equipped emotionally, mentally AND physically as
they mature into adulthood.
Cincinnati FitKids brings back the
play, fun and the physical challenges necessary for healthy children to become
healthy adults.
