Q: Who is FitKids For?

A: FitKids provides an often missing developmental building block of fitness through activity as children progress through the formative years into adulthood.

There is no requirement that children be engaged in sports to accomplish the goals of physical activity: a lifelong habit of activity, enjoyment, interaction with peers, self-expression, and skill development. Rather, FitKids provides unbridled fun movement in a non-competitive environment offering children ages 4-13 an opportunity to recapture the innocence of play.

Q: Aren’t Children Naturally Active?

A: All of the squirming, reaching, and crawling children seem to be constantly engaged in is only a fraction of the level of activity that kids need to be fit.

Even in preschool, children do not get as much activity as assumed or as recommended for a healthy lifestyle. In a study supported by a grant from Gerber Products Co., the activity of 281 preschool children was monitored for about 4 hours a day. The children averaged only about 7.7 minutes per hour of moderate or vigorous activity, often in single blocks of time when they were outside. The boys were more likely to be physically active than the girls. The 4 and 5-year-old children tended to be more sedentary than the 3-year-olds. They also had fewer periods of light activity and walked slower than the younger children.

Q: What FitKids Is Not?

A: FitKids is not a competitive or aggressive program. Our primary goal is to teach your child, through activity and movement, that fitness is fun.

We will treat your child as if he or she is our own. We understand how precious children are, and take our role in shaping them seriously. You will never hear raised voices, or negative reinforcement in any way. We believe kids respond best to positive feedback, support & love.
